Insurance Accepted
Generations of Change does not contract with any insurance companies. We are an out-of-network provider for insurance companies. If your insurance plan provides out-of-network mental health coverage for you and your enrolled family members, you can expect to receive reimbursement for our services. Out-of-network benefits cover psychotherapy with the professional you choose. Most plans require the patient to pay a deductible, and then reimburse a certain percentage of the fee after that, typically 75 or 80%. Some plans limit the number of sessions or the dollar amount that are reimbursable each year. We are happy to help you navigate this system to ensure you receive the payments you are entitled to. We will provide a receipt of services that you can present to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Here are some helpful questions to ask your insurance company regarding your plan:
What is my/our coverage for out-of-network mental health services?
Do I have an annual deductible?
How much of my annual deductible has already been met?
Are there any limits or requirements in order to receive reimbursement?
What is the reimbursement rate for an out of network provider (once your deductible has been met)?
How do I to submit for reimbursement?
How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
Is pre-approval required from my primary care physician?
Seeing an out of network provider can afford clients some flexibility without the interference of third party managed care. If you prefer to self-pay for counseling, or if your insurance does not cover counseling services, you can speak with us regarding session fees. In some cases, a limited sliding scale may be available. Payment will be due at the conclusion of each session.

For psychotherapists, the appointment time will be 45 minutes. Ideally, counseling is terminated when the issue that you pursued counseling for becomes more manageable or is resolved. During the first few counseling sessions, you and your counselor should discuss the estimated length of time needed to achieve your goals, in light of your particular needs.
How do I make a counseling appointment?
Simply telephone our office at 973 223 2172 and ask to make an appointment.
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
Yes. Please see our staff for details.
How do I know if I have insurance coverage for counseling?
Please call the phone number on your health plan insurance card to request information regarding outpatient behavioral health benefits and/or Out of network benefits. Please be sure to inquire about co-payments, deductibles and authorizations required.
What is the age ranges and types of clients are seen at Generations of Change?
We have experience working with individuals through the lifespan (from school age to older adults), couples, and families of diverse backgrounds, races, ethnicities, and religions.
What happens if I miss an appointment?
We are pleased to accommodate your schedule changes provided we are given a minimum of 24 hour notice for cancellations. Missed appointments and cancellations occurring less than 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment will be charged at the full session rate. This fee is non refundable.
The counselor you are seeing allocates the appointment time that you choose solely for you. Other clients may desperately want an appointment and could utilize the time slot in the event you are unable to keep the appointment. Unfortunately, they will be prohibited from doing so if you do not show for the appointment or it was not cancelled with sufficient notice.
